چکیده

A number of perceptual features have been utilized for the characterization of the emotional state of a speaker. However, for automatic recognition suitable objective features are needed. We have examined several features of the speech signal in relation to accentuation and traces of event-related brain potentials (ERPs) during affective speech perception. Concerning the features of the speech signal we focus on measures related to breathiness and roughness. The objective measures used were an estimation of the harmonics-to-noise ratio, the glottal-to-noise excitation ratio, a measure for spectral flatness, as well as the maximum prediction gain for a speech production model computed by the mutual information function and the ERPs. Results indicate that in particular the maximum prediction gain shows a good differentiation between neutral and non-neutral emotional speaker state. This differentiation is partly comparable to the ERP results that show a differentiation of neutral, positive and negative affect. Other objective measures are more related to accentuation than to emotional state of the speaker. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Native-like Event-related Potentials in Processing the Second Language Syntax: Late Bilinguals

Background: The P600 brain wave reflects syntactic processes in response to different first language (L1) syntactic violations, syntactic repair, structural reanalysis, and specific semantic components. Unlike semantic processing, aspects of the second language (L2) syntactic processing differ from the L1, particularly at lower levels of proficiency. At higher L2 proficiency, syntactic violatio...

Effectiveness of Neurofeedback on the Event-Related Potentials in Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of neurofeedback therapy on event-related potential (EPR) at both behavioral and physiological level in children (7-12 years) with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  Methods: The current study is a quasi-experimental project whit pre-test and post-test control group. In this study, the subjects (12 patients ...

Repetition and brain potentials when recognizing natural scenes: task and emotion differences.

Repetition has long been known to facilitate memory performance, but its effects on event-related potentials (ERPs), measured as an index of recognition memory, are less well characterized. In Experiment 1, effects of both massed and distributed repetition on old-new ERPs were assessed during an immediate recognition test that followed incidental encoding of natural scenes that also varied in e...

Early Posterior Negativity as Facial Emotion Recognition Index in Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Introduction: Studies indicate that children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have deficits in social and emotional functions. It can be hypothesized that these children have some deficits in early stages of facial emotion discrimination. Based on this hypothesis, the present study investigated neural correlates of early visual processing during emotional face recognition in...
